Floriade 2012 corsage
September - October 2009 The slogan of the Floriade 2012 is “Be part of the theatre in nature, get closer to the quality of life.” Just like Refinity the Floriade is inspired by Cradle to Cradle. This is not just about a simple horticultural show, but about the perception of nature and the quality of life. Floriade asked Refinity to develop a corsage for their promotional team. Approach This corsage is made in an eco-effective way, which means that the materials can be separated in a biological and a technical cycle. The corsage exists of many small parts and it is difficult to find a useful second function for these. Because the Floriade works with natural materials Refinity chose to make the corsage in such a way that it is biodegradable and will serve as nutrition for the earth. To pin the corsage a safety pin is used. After use the pin can be removed from the corsage and used again. The remaining materials are bark cloth, dupion silk, peacock feathers (that come off during moulting), biological cotton stitching yarn and ökotex certificated pure new wool. Here Refinity chose to use ökotex wool instead of C2C wool, because Floriade wanted to use the colour 'natural white' and C2C wool is not available in this colour. The Floriade uses her own colour palette for the logo. To realize this in an eco-effective way Refinity chose to use embroidery instead of environmentally harmful silkscreen printing. Because of this the non-biodegradable embroidery thread can be unstitched of the corsage. Parts are glued with biodegradable glue, the basic ingredient is Dammar, the plant resin of the Meranti tree that grows in the managed forests of Sumatra. Who is the Floriade? |
